Domestic Neglects, Festive Failures

is an installation that includes recycled domestic and recycled electronic objects, sculptures, led lights, a video and a rap song. The installation problematizes the origin of its elements, of industrial and predatory extractive processes, while reminding us of ancestral wisdoms and philosophies that call for a more harmonious and respectful relation with our ecosystems.
It is a mixed media sculptural installation made with recycled materials. It is made with sewn textiles, led lights, broken domestic appliances and objects that are broken or failed by bad use or bad design. Many of these are made of plastic, and there are also the obsolete electronics. Some of the objects are assembled in a way reminiscent of a landscape over a plaster wired structure. The installation includes a small scale video screen where an animated guinea pig is rapping a song that problematizes the installation itself, by commenting on the origin of the objects that form it. It also refers to extractive practices, the new green deal and its consequences for the global South. The philosophy of the Ubuntu and the Good Living philosophy from Abya Yala are sang in the rap. The installation was displayed in a context that attracted children and it presented the opportunity to engage with them and with children schools in the city through guided visits to stir up conversations about water pollution and communal practices to take care of the environment. The rap song is a call for action to bring change.

Descuidos Domésticos, Festivos Fracasos

Esta instalación está compuesta por objetos malogrados por el mal uso y el mal diseño; que he reciclado. Como el calentador de agua que quemé hasta tornarlo inservible. Estos son objetos ambivalentes, pues al participar de la instalación su naturaleza y carácter cambian.

Traen alegría y transportan el color recordando el cotidiano de los días festivos. Luces led transformadas en materia pictórica, configuran dibujos tridimensionales en el espacio. Cables USB con conecciones imposibles. Paraísos plásticos y de plástico del universo doméstico. Sonidos digitales completan el paisaje.

El video nos recuerda el contexto. Complejos procesos de producción están implicados en las transformaciones que generamos, no siempre benignas. Atmósferas seductoras permiten ingresar a reflexiones más complejas.

El error existe para que el progreso pueda suceder. Objetos fracasados adquieren nuevas funcionalidades dentro del terreno de lo afectivo y estético en el arte. Descuidos y cuidados del mundo doméstico tornados homenaje al necesario fracaso para estar aquí; pero también una reflexión sobre lo que generamos, a partir del consumo y de las relaciones con el otro, con el entorno, y con la naturaleza.
